Senior Squad
Interested in joining a club which was described as “one of the great bastions of northern rowing”? Then look no further than the Senior Squad at Warrington Rowing Club! Boosting a dedicated coaching staff and tailored training programmes, this squad is designed for rowers of any experience level who are looking to step into the competitive rowing scene.
What Can You Expect?
The summer months bring four water sessions a week for the squad – two midweek P.M. sessions and two A.M. sessions at the weekends. There are also additional gym sessions hosted midweek. In winter, the A.M. weekend water sessions remain, but the midweek P.M. sessions are moved to the gym. An early Wednesday morning ERG session is available throughout the year.

There is an expectation for those wanting to follow a more competitive training programme to train in addition to this in their own time, or at the club where possible. We also cater for those who wish to take a more relaxed approach to rowing, allowing them to structure their training to meet their needs and offering coaching where possible.

It’s not all about rowing though! The Senior Squad is a very close knit and social group of people with some members having been with the club for many years and we feel this is something that helps us stand out. There are regular socials held throughout the year, both as a squad and as a club.
Competition & Expectations
Both out mens and womens senior teams regularly achieve medals at events around the country. As the squad has increased, so have our ambitions as we aim to compete at more and more competitive events across the UK each year.

In March 2022, the senior men raced at Head of the River Race for the first time in over 20 years, achieving the highest finish position in the club’s history. In 2023, we raced HORR again, improving upon the previous year’s result. By 2024, our senior women qualified a double for the Aspirational Double Sculls event at Henley Women’s Regatta, and later won bronze at Senior National Championships in the women’s club quadruple sculls event.
Current targets for the squad include racing at Women’s Head of the River Race, qualifying for Henley Royal Regatta, qualifying more crews for Henley Women’s Regatta and further success at Senior National Championships.
